The flat face flange has a gasket surface in the same plane as the bolting circle face. Applications using flat face flanges are frequently those in which the mating flange or flanged fitting is made from a casting.

Flat face flanges are never to be bolted to a raised face flange. ASME B31.1 says that when connecting flat face cast iron flanges to carbon steel flanges, the raised face on the carbon steel flange must be removed, and that a full face gasket is required. This is to keep the thin, bittle cast iron flange from being sprung into the gap caused by the raised face of the carbon steel flange.

Plate flange is different with slip on flange without neck for contact with fitting, it usually include JIS flange and DIN flange, In ANSI, ASME flange system, which have this kind of flange.

“JIS” Stands for Japanese Industrial Standard and are published by the Japanese Standards Association (JSA) which is the equivalent of ANSI in the United States. They are created and updated by the Committee of the Japanese Industrial Standards (JISC). Like JSA to ANSI, the JISC is similar to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Japan Industrial Standard is yet another option for metric sizes. Provided in JIS5K, JIS10K, JIS15K, and JISK20K pressure classes, we can offer Slip On, Blind, and Weld Neck varieties in Raised Face or Flat Face configurations. These are typically made of 316/L or A105, but as usual, all alloys are available!
